Why businesses need a consultant.

Have you ever spent a lot of time writing something? You’ve poured over the entire document, proofread the document again and again when finally you get to the point you’re positive it’s ready for publication, you hit send.

A few minutes later, you get a response. You eagerly open the response, thinking someone is about to praise your work, fawn over your knowledge and insight. It turns out that you misspelled “becuse” about three times throughout the entire document.

Many of us can relate to this or a similar situation.

The problem here is not that we don’t know how to spell “because” and, in most circumstances, it’s not because we are careless. We are business owners, leaders of industry, and entrepreneurs. We are by our very nature meticulous and pore over our ideas carefully. That’s the real problem.

Sometimes we get too close to our ideas and we spend so much time fitting these ideas into the bigger picture that we miss some of the smaller details.

In the case of writing, we’ve read it so many times that we see what we intended to write, not what was written. This is why editors are so important to a writer. An editor (a good editor) approaches the writing with the intent to find mistakes and offer ways to improve the way the ideas are expressed while staying true to the intent of the author.

In growing a business, when we begin a project, strategy, or tactic, we often see what we want to see, not what is actually there.

This is why you need a consultant.

A good consultant is going to take a fresh look at an idea and help refine it. We’ll see what’s there, not just what was intended.
